On Day 11 of our road trip across the USA we drove to the summit of Pikes Peak. Here is a time lapse (1 photo/sec) of the 19 mile drive from Highway 24 all the way to the top of Pike’s Peak, Colorado. These videos were recorded a couple of days prior to the Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb automobile race, also known as The Race to the Clouds, so you’ll notice the preparations taking place while we are driving.
The first video is a time lapse drive to the summit. The second is a walk around the summit of Pike’s Peak. The third is a complete drive from the summit to the bottom.
We spent most of Day 8 of our roadtrip across the southwest at Arches National Park near Moab, Utah. Here’s look at a few of the sights we saw at the Windows Section of the park. Some of the short hikes in the Windows Section include Balanced Rock, Garden of Eden, Double Arch, Turret Arch, and Cove Arch.
Here’s a time lapse ride through Arches National Park. It starts at the Skyline Arch at the northern end of the parks paved road and heads down through the park to the entrance/visitor’s center. The second part of the drive starts in downtown Moab Utah and heads to the visitor’s center in the Islands in the Sky district of the park.
Day 7 of our road trip through the southeastern USA took us on the most scenic roads in America from Flagstaff, Arizona to Moab, Utah. Most of the drive was on US Route 160 in Arizona (Navajo Nation land) and US Route 191 in Utah. This was by far the most beautiful drive of our entire 2 week trip and took us through Monument Valley and the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park.
Trip Start: Flagstaff, Arizona
Trip Finish: Moab, Utah

Day 6 of our road trip through the southeastern USA took us to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Here’s a look at some of the beautiful views around the Grand Canyon South Rim. Most of these picturesque sights are from the area around Mather Point, The Visitor Center Complex, Bright Angel Lodge, El Tovar Hotel, Thunderbird Lodge, and Kolb Studio.
The first day of our trip out west was spent driving, so the only real photographic highlight is some slowly cooked meat from the Memphis BBQ Company in Horn Lake, Mississippi.
